Joe Henderson - Relaxin' at Camarillo (1979) (OJC)

Joe Henderson - Relaxin' at Camarillo (1979)
jazz | 1cd | eac-flac-cue-log-cover | 260MB
OJC
Allmusic:
Originally on Contemporary, this CD reissue teams the great tenor Joe Henderson with pianist Chick Corea, either Tony Dumas or Richard Davis on bass, and Peter Erskine or Tony Williams on drums. The repertoire includes two songs by Corea, Henderson's "Y Todavia la Quiero," the standard ballad "My One and Only Love," and Charlie Parker's "Relaxin' at Camarillo." This informal session has plenty of fine solos from the two principals and is recommended to fans of advanced hard bop.

Tracks
-1. "Y Todavia la Quiero" - Henderson - 11:42
-2. "My One and Only Love" - Gershwin, Gershwin, Mellin, Wood - 9:59
-3. "Crimson Lake" - Corea - 5:26
-4. "Yes, My Dear" - Corea - 8:44
-5. "Relaxin' at Camarillo" - Parker - 9:21

Personnel
* Joe Henderson (tenor saxophone)
* Chick Corea (piano)
* Tony Dumas, Richard Davis (bass)

Blue Note | RVG 24-bit remaster 1999
AMG:
Tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson's debut as a leader is a particularly strong and historic effort. With major contributions made by trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Butch Warren, and drummer Pete La Roca, Henderson (who already had a strikingly original sound and a viable inside/outside style) performs six generally memorable compositions on this CD reissue. Highlights include the original versions of Dorham's "Blue Bossa" and Henderson's "Recorda Me." It's highly recommended.

Tracks:

-1. "Blue Bossa" (Kenny Dorham) – 8:03
-2. "La Mesha" (Dorham) – 9:10
-3. "Homestretch" – 4:15
-4. "Recorda Me" – 6:03
-5. "Jinrikisha" – 7:24
-6. "Out of the Night" – 7:23
All compositions by Joe Henderson except as indicated.

Personnel:
* Kenny Dorham – trumpet
* Joe Henderson – tenor saxophone
* Pete La Roca – drums
* McCoy Tyner – piano
* Butch Warren – double bass

Joe Henderson - Joe Henderson In Japan (1971) (eac-log-cover)

Joe Henderson - In Japan (1971)
jazz | 1cd | eac-flac-cue-log-cover | 305MB
OJC
AMG:
Tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson is heard in peak form throughout this set. Performing at the Junk Club in Tokyo, Henderson is joined by an all-Japanese rhythm section (electric pianist Hideo Ichikawa, bassist Kunimitsu Inaba, and drummer Motohiko Hino) on lengthy versions of "'Round Midnight," "Blue Bossa," and his two originals "Out 'n' In" and "Junk Blues." Henderson sounds quite inspired throughout the set, and the obscure rhythm section (only Hino is known in the U.S.) really pushes him. An underrated gem.

Tracks:
-1. "'Round Midnight" (Thelonius Monk) - 12:35
-2. "Out 'N' In" (Joe Henderson) - 9:03
-3. "Blue Bossa" (Kenny Dorham) - 8:25
-4. "Junk Blues" (Henderson) - 14:46

Personnel:
* Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone
* Hideo Ichikawa - electric piano
* Kunimitsu Inaba - bass
* Motohiko Hino - drums

Joe Henderson - At The Lighthouse (1970) (eac-log-cover)

Joe Henderson - At The Lighthouse (1970)
jazz | 1cd | eac-flac-cue-log-cover | 490 MB
Milestone | rar +5% recovery
AMG:
This live session from the legendary Lighthouse features a particularly strong version of the Joe Henderson Quintet, which at the time included the leader on tenor, trumpeter Woody Shaw, keyboardist George Cables, bassist Ron McClure and drummer Lenny White. There are excellent remakes of "Mode for Joe" and "Blue Bossa" plus two new originals and a fine rendition of "'Round Midnight." As is typical of Henderson's Milestone recordings, this one did not sell all that well but blame cannot be placed on the musical quality.

Tracks:
01 - Caribbean Fire Dance
02 - Recorda-Me
03 - A Shape Of Jade
04 - Isotope
05 - 'Round Midnight
06 - Mode For Joe
07 - Invitation
08 - If You're Not Part Of The Solution, You're Part Of The Problem
09 - Blue Bossa
10 - Closing Theme

Personnel:
Lenny White - drums
Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone
Woody Shaw - trumpet, flugelhorn
George Cables - electric piano
Ron McClure - electric bass
Tony Waters - congas
